Defiance

I walked my bike
Up before the gaze of imposing mountains,
And up beneath the navy canopy of twinkling stars.
I wanted to lie beneath those stars with you,
In the dirt,
To laugh and love together,
Looking up at the universe,
Which had told you we could neither laugh
nor love
together.
